Selection of Parliamentary Candidate

Your Chance to Choose our next Parliamentary Candidate.

Dear Liberal Democrat Member / Supporter

I’m writing to everyone who has been a local Liberal Democrat member or supporter in 2022/2023 to let you know about the selection process for our prospective parliamentary candidate for Colchester for the next General Election.

We expect to advertise the position towards the end of January to early February.  If you live in the Colchester parliamentary constituency and are a paid-up member of the Party on that date, you will have a vote to decide who our candidate should be.

We are planning an opportunity for members to ‘meet’ applicants at a hustings meeting held online by Zoom early in March. You may also receive information from the applicants by email. (NB mailings from applicants will be handled centrally – we will not divulge email addresses). The actual selection will follow by electronic ballot, with a postal vote option for anyone who prefers.

We’ll be circulating more details about this selection process in a newsletter in the next few weeks, including the date of the hustings meeting and the ballot.

If you are a lapsed, or about to lapse, member of the Party you still have time to rejoin to participate in this ballot. Likewise, if you are a registered supporter, you still have time to join as a full member and vote. I would encourage you to do so. Seldom has our country been more in need of the open, balanced and tolerant approach to politics that Liberal Democrats stand for.
