Alison Jay was elected to represent Highwoods on Colchester City Council in the by-election on 8 December 2022. She held her seat with a majority of 307 on 4th May 2023.
She is Portfolio Holder for Economy, Transformation and Performance on the City Council.
Alison has lived in Highwoods since 2005, worked here for 14 years and is very aware of the issues that affect local residents. She is the current Chair of Myland Community Council and has been a local school governor as well as Finance Officer of St. John’s & Highwoods Community Association.
Alison joined the Liberal Democrats as she felt her views of a fair society and equality closely aligned with the party. She has a specific interest in early years education, substantive NHS funding and good mental health support.
As a campaigner, Alison has a fair and balanced approach to issues and is known for “getting things done”. She is focused on doing the same for residents locally and in her role as a Councillor aims to be actively involved in the decision making process on the issues which affect us most.

Simon Appleton was elected to represent Highwoods on Colchester City Council in the by-election on 21 September 2022.
Simon moved to Highwoods over 2 years ago with his partner Florence, who is an NHS nurse working at Colchester Hospital.
Simon said “Highwoods is a lovely, friendly part of Colchester with a real community feel to it. Since moving here, I have wanted to get more involved in, and do more to help further improve the local community.
"If elected as a councillor I will do all I can to represent the residents of Highwoods, alongside my colleague Alison Jay, and to deliver what matters most to the residents of Highwoods"
Simon has joined Alison Jay, David King and the Lib Dem Team working hard for Highwoods residents all year round.

David King was elected as County Councillor for Mile End and Highwoods in 2021. He is also leader of Colchester City Council and is a City Councillor for Mile End.
David has been campaigning for better maintenance for our roads and pavements by the Councy Council. He has been leading the work to ensure our Council delivers the support our residents need.
