Colchester Liberal Democrats have selected Highwoods resident Simon Appleton as our candidate for the Highwoods by-election, expected to take place in September.

The election follows the resignation of a Labour councillor who stepped down after just seven months in the role.  

Simon, who has four sons, lives in the heart of Highwoods with his partner Florence, who is an NHS nurse working at Colchester Hospital.

Simon said “Highwoods is a lovely, friendly part of Colchester with a real community feel to it.  Since moving here, I have wanted to get more involved in, and do more to help further improve the local community. 
"If elected as a councillor I will do all I can to represent the residents of Highwoods, alongside my colleague Alison Jay, and to deliver what matters most to the residents of Highwoods"

Simon will join Alison Jay, David King and the Lib Dem Team working hard for Highwoods residents all year round.
